Solar Powered Signs Prevent Accidents; Work Zones, School Zones

Workplace accidents are nearly impossible to avoid altogether; however they can be more preventable by using solar powered stop signs in order to alert pedestrians and oncoming traffic that someone may be driving by with heavy machinery or other large construction vehicles.

Solar traffic signs use the sun’s energy in order to work four flashing LED lights on the surface of the signs in order to help alert motorists and pedestrians to what the sign is “saying.”  For example, a solar powered stop sign has four red LED flashing lights near the corners of the sign surrounding the word stop.  When someone is driving and not paying attention, a flashing light will help divert their attention back to the road or to the sign in order to do what they need to do to remain safe and continue on their journey.

Solar powered signs used in work zones along the highway can alert oncoming traffic to a slowdown of other cars in front of them. For instance, a speed sign with flashing LED lights will be more effective than a regular speed sign in deterring speeding in work zones where highway construction workers have been injured at an alarming rate.

There are many distractions in a school zone when parents are picking up or dropping off their children and school buses are waiting to pull out in addition to children being everywhere and among the cars at one time.  Solar powered safety signs will help keep motorists alert to what is going on around them in order to keep all children safe from avoidable car or bus accidents.

Solar powered signs are good for the environment because they do not use electricity when helping to alert drivers or pedestrians to what is going on around them.  The solar panel is used to collect the sun’s energy in order to generate power for the four flashing LED lights.  The four flashing LED lights are what attracts the attention of pedestrians and motorists who may otherwise be distracted to the sign.  Many tests have shown that motorists are easily distracted by the simplest tasks such as talking - either to a passenger or on the cell phone - adjusting the radio or popping a CD in a CD player or eating.

Solar powered traffic signs save lives in addition to saving energy.  They are worth the initial cost because there is no cost greater than the loss of life due to an automobile accident that could have been avoided if someone had only been paying attention.
