Safety Sign Uses LED Lights to Warn and Alert Approaching Traffic

Friday, May 29th, 2009

A solar sign is a solar powered traffic sign that uses the sun’s energy to generate three or four flashing orange, red or yellow LED lights that usually surround the word or phrases on the sign.  These solar powered signs are used across the country to help save lives.

A solar powered stop sign contains four red flashing LED lights connected to a solar panel that collects the sun’s ultraviolet rays to generate enough power to make the lights flash on and off continuously for up to 12 hours.  The reason for the LED flashing lights on a stop sign is to help attract the attention of distracted drivers so that they might see the stop sign and stop their vehicle instead of rolling through the stop and possibly causing an accident.

A solar powered safety sign has been shown in test after test to help distracted drivers see the traffic signs where they otherwise would have kept driving without heeding their warning.  Distracted drivers are the number one cause of accidents in the United States and this includes drunk drivers.  One may think cell phones is the number one distraction; however a recent study showed that eating while driving is the number one distraction and the number two distraction were cell phones.  Although more recently cell phone texting is becoming a major problem in many cities with younger drivers especially teens and young adults in their 20s, texting while driving is very distracting because it’s like typing on a tiny computer while trying to navigate the roadways.  Many hundreds of accidents have been attributed to texting while driving over the past few years.  Texting and driving is very dangerous and many states are trying to ban all cell phone use while driving making it illegal to drive and talk on the cell phone, which is using the cell phone in any capacity while your vehicle is in motion.  This means if you have to make a phone call while driving, you must pull off the road and park before answering the phone or making a phone call.

Before solar signs are placed on the roads and highways, they are placed in areas where they are deemed for experiment and tested to make sure they worked in overcast and cloudy days or with trees overhead which might block the solar panel; however the solar panel still performs its duty to collect the sun’s rays and generate enough power to flash the LED lights.

The solar paneled traffic signs are constructed of heavy-duty materials and can withstand all types of weather and the LED flashing lights help drivers see the warning signs and whiteout conditions during snowstorms and dangerous rainfall during thunderstorms.

LED Lights on Solar Signs Grab Attention from Distracted Drivers

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Solar sign lights are three or four flashing LED light that surround a word or phrase on a tin street or traffic sign.  The lights are meant to help grab the attention of distracted drivers so that they would heed the warnings of the signs.

There is a solar powered stop sign, solar powered directional signs, solar powered work ahead signs, solar powered school zone signs, solar powered railroad crossing signs, solar powered deer crossing signs, solar powered watch for possible falling rock signs, solar powered deaf children at play signs and all types of solar powered industrial signs for machine shops or power plants.

Solar powered signs save lives because they help distracted drivers who are not paying attention draw their attention to solar powered signs with the flashing LED lights on the tin signs that are better than the ordinary sign with no flashing lights.  Additionally, these solar powered LED flashing lights do not require any batteries, which eventually end up in landfills, or long electrical cords which drain the city’s resources.  The solar powered traffic signs only require sunlight but also work on cloudy days because the sun’s ultraviolet rays travel through the clouds.  These environmentally conscious solar powered signs are cost-effective to cities and towns that choose to use them on their streets and to the highway departments who also use solar paneled signs.

The LED flashing lights help distracted drivers by drawing their attention to the flashing lights on the traffic signs so the drivers may regard and obey what the sign has to “say”.  For example, there has been a large campaign about slowing down in work zones along the highways because several highway workers have been injured or even killed by speeding drivers.  With the flashing LED lights surrounding a bright orange or neon yellow ‘slow, workers ahead’ sign, the accident rate drops dramatically.  People can’t help but notice the flashing LED lights on the solar signs and this is exactly what the highway department, cities and towns across America want.

There are also solar sign for industrial plants and machine shops in bright neon yellow which warn of overhead wires or other cautions such as hard hat areas.  These flashing LED solar powered signs remind workers to beware and be careful while they’re working in what could be a dangerous situation.

No matter where a solar powered sign with its flashing LED lights is placed, it is certain to attract the attention of drivers, pedestrians or workers so that they remain safe and help to maintain the safety of those around them.  From schoolyards where school buses are often found to highway work zones, solar power street signs could save lives.

Solar Safety Sign Help Distracted Drivers Pay Attention

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

A solar safety sign company is busy helping highway and roadway crews across the country to make better and safer roadways for travelers using the power and energy of the sun which costs cities and towns very little to implement and run.

Solar powered traffic signs are similar to regular traffic signs in that they are the tin traffic signs on a pole; however they have a small design enhancement which would be a short strong pole attached to the back of the pole near the tin sign in which a small solar panel - proportionate to the sign itself - juts out to collect the sun’s rays and generate three or four LED flashing lights on the tin sign.  Solar signs are very economical because they use the sun’s energy instead of batteries which need to be changed often and eventually end up in landfills or long extension cords that use electricity which depletes a city’s resources.

Many cities and towns are looking for environmentally friendly ways to help their communities and solar powered signs seem to be just the ticket because they are of reasonable cost to purchase and implement into the community.  There is no need for long extension cords or batteries because a solar powered stop sign and other solar traffic sign use the sun’s energy to generate power to the LED lights that surround the white word on the tin sign.

Distracted drivers are a leading cause of vehicle accidents in the United States because people insist on multitasking when driving should be a single task.  Several studies have shown that while cell phone use is a major distraction, it is not the number one driver distraction; many studies have found that eating while driving is the number one distraction.  Several states have banned driving and cell phone use because it is the number two distraction for drivers and now a new distraction has popped up called texting while driving.  This is most dangerous because it is like typing on a tiny laptop computer while trying to navigate the roadway.  Many of the culprits of texting while driving are young teenagers and young adults.

With the solar paneled signs, distracted drivers attention is pulled away from their distraction with three or four flashing LED lights on the tin sign to make the sign more visible even on the brightest, sunniest day.  Of course the LED lights help drivers see the stop signs and other solar power traffic signs during inclement weather such as severe thunderstorms or whiteout conditions during severe snowstorms.

Drivers can’t always pay attention, a passenger may be talking to them, a child may need their attention, or a split-second decision to turn on the air conditioning or change a radio station can mean the difference between life and death if a driver is in unfamiliar territory and does not see a stop sign that may be partially covered by trees.  LED flashing lights on solar panel stop signs save lives.

Distracted Drivers See Solar Powered Traffic Signs, Heed Their Warnings

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

Solar powered stop signs are popping up all over the country in order to save lives by helping distracted drivers notice the stop signs because of their four LED flashing lights.

Each and every solar powered sign has either red, yellow or orange flashing LED lights that are powered by the solar panel attached to the pole of the sign and will continually flash up to 12 hours even after the sun has gone down.

Solar powered signs run on the solar energy generated by the sun’s ultraviolet light rays which beams down onto a solar panel that has been retrofitted onto a special signpost in which the wires are incased in metal tubing that runs from the solar panel to the back of the stop sign or whatever type of solar power traffic sign a city is using to generate the LED lights.

Solar signs come in a variety of shapes and sizes just as regular traffic signs do.  There are new neon yellow ‘work ahead’ signs along with the traditional bright orange signs, both with four flashing LED lights that surround the words on the sign to help distracted drivers heed the warnings of the signs.  There are solar powered traffic signs for nearly any occasion such as railroad crossings, deer crossings, school bus stops ahead, emergency entrances, narrow lanes ahead or low shoulder signs.

Distracted drivers are the number one killer on America’s highways today.  Distractions could be all types anything from drunk driving to changing the radio station to eating a burger for lunch while driving to driving with an enormous boat being hauled behind a small pickup truck.  The combinations of distractions are endless.  People also daydream about everything under the sun while they’re driving and they miss their exits, roll through stop signs, drive too fast in work zones or school zones and cause accidents and endanger the lives of other drivers and passengers.  With the solar powered stop signs and other solar powered traffic signs, the distracted driver’s attention is grabbed by the flashing lights and hopefully they observe the warnings of the signs and do as they are directed.

For all intent and purposes the solar powered signs look like regular traffic signs except for the solar panel attached to the side of it and the three or four flashing LED lights surrounding the bright white word directing the driver as what direction to go or direction to follow.

Many of today’s vehicles are equipped with state-of-the-art safety mechanisms to help protect drivers and their passengers in case of an accident.  Solar powered signs help to prevent accidents from happening in the first place.
