Solar Powered Pedestrian Crossing Signs Work While On School Campuses

Monday, October 12th, 2009

Solar powered pedestrian crossing signs are similar to regular pedestrian crossing signs, only they have one or two solar powered panels protruding from the sides of the pole the sign perches on in order to collect the sun’s ultraviolet rays to help generate power to the flashing LED lights.  These flashing LED lights help pedestrians and drivers who may be distracted become alert to what is going on in their surroundings.

Distracted drivers are the number one cause of accidents today and this includes drivers who insist on driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs; those drivers who are driving while talking on their cell phone or sometimes texting on a cell phone which is extremely dangerous because it takes the driver’s eyes off the road and their concentration is on punching letters on a tiny keyboard rather than on the other cars and possible pedestrians on the road.

A solar power pedestrian crossing sign would work well on a school campus across the country, from elementary schools to high schools to college campuses in which pedestrians and vehicles need to coexist safely and without incident.  At elementary schools all across the country, flashing out lead to a light on stop signs and pedestrian crossing signs helped in the job pedestrian cross walking guards because they help alert children to oncoming traffic and remind them to stop and look both ways before crossing the street.  These flashing LED lights that surround the word ‘STOP’ are generated by the sun’s energy even on cloudy and overcast days.

College campuses have thousands of pedestrians walking and bicycles riding in the middle of the streets, in addition to cars, each try to navigate the same streets so a solar powered safety sign would be a great addition to help with the safety issues of a college campus.

There has always been an ongoing debate on whether pedestrians or automobiles have the right-of-way near closed campuses in which students are going from their dorm rooms or sorority or fraternity houses to the campus and cars are busy trying to get where they need to be.  Even though there are crosswalks clearly marked on every street, college students do not always use these and drivers are not always paying attention which is a deadly combination.

Solar Powered Traffic Signs Save Lives, Save Money; Distracted Drivers Beware

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

There are many reasons why the country has seen an increase in car accidents, especially fatal car accidents in the past five to 10 years.  Many people blame it on large semi-trucks; however the truth is that people are multitasking while they are driving, not paying attention to the roadways and especially the street signs or traffic signs that help people navigate their way safely to their destination.

A solar powered traffic sign comes in a variety of sizes, shapes and directions.  There are directional signs with arrows which point to the left, the right or straight ahead; there are school crossing signs, pedestrian crossing signs, deer crossing signs; railroad crossing ahead signs; emergency vehicle entrance signs; danger ahead street signs and stop signs to name a few. Most solar powered traffic signs come with the option of having three or four red, yellow or orange LED lights that flash on and off to help grab the attention of drivers to the signs so they may heed the warnings of these traffic signs.

Solar power street signs and traffic signs save cities and towns countless untold amounts of taxpayer money in electric and gas as well as the emergency room services because these signs help cut down on the number of accidents from people running through stop signs or speeding near work zone or school areas – all of which could at fatal consequences.

Solar panels safety signs placed on traffic signs helped generate power to three or four LED flashing lights by collecting the sun’s ultraviolet light instead of using costly electricity or high price of gasoline to power a generator, both of which can be unsafe for the environment and those working around these types of signs.  Solar power traffic signs are both safe for the environment and workers who may be working below them or around them.

There will always be distracted drivers on the highways, streets and roadways; however solar paneled traffic signs will help these distracted drivers see warning signs because of their flashing LED lights moreover then they would regular non-flashing signs and this will help to save lives.
