Solar Powered Pedestrian Crossing Signs save Lives

Thursday, August 20th, 2009

Solar powered pedestrian crossings signs are popping up all over the country, in hospital zones, school zones and construction work zones where pedestrians and vehicles need to coexist without the vehicles doing any harm to the pedestrians.

Solar powered street signs use the sun’s energy to generate power to three or four LED flashing lights in order to attract distracted drivers or any driver to the sign and have them do what the sign is ‘saying’.  For example, a solar powered speed limit sign installed near a school will help drivers to recognize they are entering a school zone and to begin slowing down to the designated speed limit because they have seen the flashing LED lights that highlight the speed limit on the sign.

Hospital zones, where emergency vehicles are racing in and out of traffic, can be helped with a solar powered traffic safety sign and solar powered stop signs.  Accidents involving emergency vehicles and other motorists can be avoided by using solar powered stop signs to alert drivers of an impending stop where they might not have otherwise seen the stop sign and continued through it into an accident.

On any given weekday around three o’clock in the afternoon, there are hundreds of thousands of children leaving schools all across the country and waiting school buses and parents in cars ready to whisk them away to after school activities or home for a snack like pizza or grapes.  Accidents can be avoided with solar powered traffic signs such as solar powered speed limit signs, solar powered yield signs and solar powered stop signs.

Colorful signs placed near hospital zones and school zones are often times not enough to save lives but a solar powered traffic sign with flashing red, yellow or orange LED lights have been proven to save more lives than a traditional metal sign with only the reflective tape.

Numerous construction company accidents have been lowered because of solar powered traffic signs and also in work areas, mostly along the highways where pedestrians and large heavy construction equipment share the road.

Whether it’s a construction zone, school zone or hospital zone, solar powered safety signs and traffic signs can help to save lives.
