LED Safety Signs save Taxpayer Money and Save Lives

Monday, June 1st, 2009

LED safety signs could save cities and towns across the country thousands of dollars in taxpayer money and energy costs because the safety signs use the sun’s energy through solar panels to generate the flashing LED lights.

One example of a solar powered safety sign would be a solar powered stop sign with four flashing red LED lights surrounding the word stop.  The flashing LED red lights draw the attention of a driver to the stop sign that might have otherwise missed it if they were distracted and there were no flashing lights.  These solar powered signs cost next to nothing to maintain and run on a continuing basis because the LED lights last and last so they do not have to be replaced that often; the sun’s energy generates the flashing lights for up to 12 continuous hours so there is no need for expensive electricity.

Solar signs come in all different shapes and sizes and have all different types of directions available on the front of them.  There are solar power stop signs, slow, children at play signs, low bridge ahead signs, road work ahead signs, school bus stop ahead signs, deer crossing signs, railroad crossing signs, low shoulder signs and just about any sign imaginable that may be needed for the street company or highway departments.

When pedestrians and drivers need to share the road, such as school areas from small children on up to college age kids, it is very important to have a school crossing and pedestrian crossing signs available where drivers can see them.  With the solar panel signs with the LED flashing lights, distracted drivers driving through a campus are more likely to see the signs and slow down their vehicle before causing a potentially deadly accident.

In the United States most highways have the speed limit between 60 and 70 mph; however many drivers push this to the limit and drive at least 15 mph over the speed limits causing dangerous conditions for themselves and other drivers on the highway.  Many of the highways, in order to accommodate the ever-growing population and urban sprawl, have placed traffic signals across the highways.  With traffic traveling so fast, it is often difficult for cars to slow down enough to stop at the traffic lights; therefore placing traffic signal ahead signs with the flashing LED lights far enough in advance of the streetlights would be most helpful to drivers, especially those who are traveling faster than the speed limit.  This would give them enough time to slow down before either reaching the traffic light or a car that might be stopped waiting for the light.

Safety Signs Help Economically Strapped Cities with Budgets; Lower Fatality Rates

In these economic hard times many municipalities, cities, towns and states are looking to save money along their highways and roadways in addition to saving the lives of the many thousands of distracted drivers that are on the rise due to cell phone use which has now been banned in several cities and states.

One of the better solutions to come along for the cities and towns to combat their economic hard times, in addition to helping save lives, is the LED safety signs.  The LED safety signs are solar powered through the sun’s energy and therefore do not cost the community anything to run on a daily basis and maintenance is very low and limited on these durable signs.  The signs come in a variety of traffic appropriate signs including solar powered stop signs, solar powered railroad crossing signs, solar powered pedestrian crossing signs, solar powered deer crossing signs, solar powered emergency exits and entrances signs, solar powered warning signs and solar powered directional signs.

The solar sign lights are LED powered which are brighter lights and last longer than fluorescent lights and can be generated through the sun’s power therefore saving electricity.  The idea behind solar sign flashing lights is that they draw the attention of a driver, who might be distracted through something in the car such as changing the radio station or talking to a passenger or lost in their own thoughts, back to the reality of driving.  The flashing lights catch the driver’s attention and hopefully that will heed the warnings of the traffic signs with the flashing LED lights on them.  For example, if there is a traffic sign that says ‘slow children at play’ with four bright LED lights flashing, one in each corner of the sign, this would be hard to miss even by a driver who is not paying attention because the flashing bright lights are designed to capture a drivers attention.

Solar powered safety signs have many applications and can be used in construction work zones where people and heavy equipment need to walk and drive on the same path.  The flashing LED lights on the safety signs alert the heavy equipment drivers to oncoming traffic or pedestrian crossings to help avoid accidents and fatalities because the driver is placed so high up on the machinery that they often times cannot see the ground in front of them.

LED Flashing STOP Signs Help Motorists at Intersections

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

LED flashing stop signs help motorists at intersections because they alert motorists to stop signs they may not otherwise have seen.  These solar signs, which use the sun’s energy instead of generators, save cities and municipalities untold thousands of dollars each year in maintenance fees, gas fees and in the lives they save by alerting drivers to an upcoming stop sign.

Solar powered stop signs have four flashing LED lights surrounding the word STOP so that motorist’s attention will be drawn to the flashing lights. Therefore, they will receive the stop sign and are better prepared to stop at the upcoming intersection.

LED safety signs are not only reserved for stop signs, there are LED safety signs for railroad crossings, school crossings, heavy equipment crossings, pedestrian crossings, deer crossings and yield signs at intersections and entrances and exits to the highway.  There are also special made LED safety signs for construction, businesses, and schools that have special needs when it comes to their parking lots or construction yards.

LED flashing stop signs draw the motorists’ attention to the stop sign better than a regular stop sign would, especially on residential streets or busy downtown areas where there is a lot going on and it’s hard to see whether or not there is a stop sign.  Law enforcement praises LED flashing stop signs because they have helped save many people from running stop signs and causing unnecessary accidents, many that lose lives and many that could have been prevented.

Solar Signs Save Lives and the Environment

School crossing zones and construction areas can be a hazardous place for children and workers.  Construction areas, especially those along the highway, are especially dangerous for the workers who are trying to better the streets for the drivers.  Traditional, unlit signs that say stop or slow down do not always work even in their bright colors.

One way to reduce risk and increase exposure is through LED solar safety signs.  LED safety signs bring attention to hazardous areas such as the school crossing or construction areas by using solar power panels to generate flashing LED lights that surround the letters on the sign.  This has been proven to attract more attention than a normal sign without flashing lights.  Additionally, since the solar safety signs use the sun’s power they are maintenance-free and are eco-friendly which makes sense in this global warming atmosphere of today’s planetary condition.  There is no electricity needed and therefore the school or construction company or municipality that places the signs in the streets saves money.

When people driving in cars see the flashing LED lights, their attention is diverted to the sign and they are more likely to do what it says like stop, slow down, beware of high-voltage lines, oncoming fire trucks or anything that may be of danger to the them as they driver to protect themselves as well as to protect others such as construction workers, pedestrians or schoolchildren.

There are a number of signs available including solar powered stop signs, vehicle directional instructions, pedestrian safety, plant turnarounds, parking lot safety, school zone safety and homeland security safety signs.  Custom-designed signs are also available to meet unique needs.  If a company or school has a budget concern, there are rent to own signs that many cities are using today. The signs will be put in place and monthly payments are taken until the units are paid off.
